Miguel Klingenberg is the Executive Managing Director of Legal Affairs and a member of the Executive Committee of Repsol. He coordinates Repsol’s legal advice and defence activities, defining policies, regulations and action protocols so that the group’s activity is carried out within the established legal frameworks.

He joined Repsol in September 2012 as Deputy Secretary General. At that time he coordinated Repsol’s legal strategy to obtain financial compensation from the Argentinian government for the renationalisation of 51% of YPF. The process culminated in the signing of an agreement with Argentina pursuant to which it recognised Repsol’s right to receive compensation for the renationalisation amounting to five billion dollars.

Miguel holds a degree in law from Universidad de Deusto and in business administration from ICADE.

He practised as a lawyer at various firms for over 30 years, specialising in tax matters. After becoming a founding partner of the Hervada & Klingenberg law firm, he joined Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP in 1998. He was a partner and the head of the tax department in Spain, as well as managing partner of the Spanish offices from 2006 to 2010.

Miguel is also a trustee of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum Foundation.
