In order to strengthen Spain’s position as an international hub for commercial dispute resolution, on 18 December 2017 the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services of Madrid, the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration, and the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services, and Navigation of Spain signed a Memorandum of Understanding to unify their international arbitration activities.As a result of this initiative, the Madrid Association for International Arbitration was established on 25 July 2019 with the objective of providing economic operators worldwide, particularly in Europe and Latin America, with an efficient and agile mechanism for the resolution of international commercial disputes through the Madrid International and Ibero-American Arbitration Center (CIIAM), which commenced operations on 1 January 2020.CIIAM is therefore the result of the consolidation of the international arbitration activities of the Madrid Court of Arbitration (CAM), the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration (CIMA), and the Spanish Court of Arbitration (CEA), with the Court of Arbitration of the Madrid Bar Association (ICAM) joining as a strategic partner.
